Understanding Charging Levels
Not all chargers are equal. Here's what to expect from each type so you can plan stops that suit your itinerary.
Destination Chargers
AC Type 2 · 7–22 kW
Perfect for topping up while you sleep or dine. Most Queenstown hotels and holiday parks have Type 2 outlets. Adds roughly 50–100 km per hour of charge.
Fast Chargers
DC CCS · 50 kW
Found at service stations and shopping centres throughout Queenstown. Adds approximately 100 km in just 20 minutes — ideal for a coffee stop.
Tesla Superchargers
DC · 150–250 kW
Tesla's Supercharger network is optimised for your Model Y rental. Located at key stops along SH6 and in central Queenstown. Adds up to 270 km in 15 minutes.

A few simple courtesies keep the charging network running smoothly for everyone.
Charge and Move
Once your vehicle has reached your target charge, move it promptly so other drivers can use the bay. Idle fees apply at most fast-charge stations after a grace period.
Monitor via App
Use the Tesla app to track your charging session in real time. You'll receive a notification when charging is complete so you can return to the vehicle without waiting.
Respect Charging Bays
EV charging bays are reserved for actively charging vehicles only. Never park a non-charging vehicle — electric or otherwise — in a dedicated EV charging space.
Return the Cable
Always return charging cables to their holster after use. A tidy station is a usable station — leaving cables on the ground can damage them and inconvenience the next driver.
